Compare PDF at a glance

Compare PDF is a tool that shows what changed between two versions of a PDF. You add the original and the newer file, and Wispdf compares them in your browser and makes one PDF report: a summary, then each changed page as an overlay with added words in green and removed words in red. It is part of Pro.

How to use Compare PDF

  1. Add both versions

Choose the original PDF and the newer one. Both open in your browser.

  2. Compare the pages

Choose text, pages or both. Wispdf lines up the pages and finds what was added, removed or reworded.

  3. Read the report

Open the PDF report: a summary first, then each changed page with its overlay and text changes.

What Compare PDF does

Comparing PDFs means checking 2 versions of a document to find what was added, removed or changed. Wispdf compares them in your browser and gives you one PDF report: a summary of what changed, then each changed page as a visual overlay with its text changes marked. Added words are green and removed words are red. Your files are never uploaded.

People use it to

  • Check what the landlord changed in a lease renewal before you sign it
  • Spot the edits a client made to a proposal they sent back to you
  • Confirm a revised staff handbook only changed the sections HR announced

What's included

Text changes marked

Inserted words are green and underlined, deleted words red and struck through, with context around each.

Visual page overlay

Each changed page is shown as an overlay image, so moved tables, images and layout changes stand out.

Questions about Compare PDF

Is Compare PDF free?
Compare PDF is part of Pro and the 7-Day Pass. Try Pro free for 7 days, no card needed. It runs on your device, so there is no daily cap on how many pairs you compare. The practical limit is your device's memory, comfortably around 1 GB of PDFs on a computer and less on a phone.
Are my 2 PDFs uploaded to compare them?
No. Compare PDF works inside your browser, on your device. Neither the original nor the new version is sent to our servers, so nothing is stored and nobody at Wispdf sees them. That is useful when the files are contract drafts, pricing or anything else you would rather keep to yourself.
How do I compare 2 versions of a contract?
Open Compare PDF and add the older version first, then the newer one. Wispdf makes one PDF report. It opens with a summary of pages and words changed, then shows each changed page as an overlay with its text changes marked, so a moved table or a swapped logo stands out too.
Will it find changes in a scanned PDF?
The visual overlay in Compare PDF works on scanned pages too, because it compares how the pages look. The text comparison needs real text in the file, and a scan is a picture of the page. If both versions are scans, run them through OCR PDF first so there is text to compare, or rely on the overlay.
Can I compare PDFs on a Mac, Windows PC or phone?
Yes. Compare PDF works in any modern browser on Mac, Windows, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android, with no app to install. The result is a PDF report, so you can read it on any screen, and a computer or tablet is the most comfortable choice for long documents.
Can Wispdf explain what the changes mean?
Compare PDF shows you what changed, and you decide what it means. For a written explanation, AI Compare is coming soon. It will read both versions and call out changed dates, amounts, parties, obligations and termination terms in contracts, sending the text rather than the file. It is not legal advice.
