What PDF to Word does

Converting a PDF to Word means turning fixed pages into a DOCX file you can edit in Word or any app that opens DOCX. Wispdf rebuilds the text, tables and layout as closely as it can. That takes a full document engine, so the conversion runs on our servers and your file is deleted within an hour. Scanned PDFs can be converted with text recognition (OCR), up to 10 pages a file for free and 500 with Pro.

People use it to

  • Revise your resume when the PDF is the only copy you kept
  • Update last year's contract template instead of retyping it from scratch
  • Turn a PDF handout into a worksheet you can adapt for your own class

Scanned PDFs too

Text recognition (OCR) turns scanned pages into words you can edit, up to 10 pages a file for free and 500 with Pro or a 7-Day Pass.

Questions about PDF to Word

Is PDF to Word free?
PDF to Word is part of the free daily allowance: 2 tasks a day without an account, 3 with a free account, and files up to 50 MB each. It is unlimited with Pro or a 7-Day Pass. Pro has a 7-day free trial with no card, and a 7-Day Pass is $9, paid once.
Where does my PDF go when I convert it to Word?
PDF to Word sends your file to our servers, because rebuilding a PDF as a properly laid out Word document takes a full document engine that a browser cannot run. Your PDF is encrypted on the way, converted, and deleted within an hour. Nobody looks at it.
Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?
Yes. A scanned PDF is a picture of each page, so PDF to Word needs text recognition (OCR) to find the words before they can be edited. OCR covers up to 10 pages a file on the free daily allowance. Longer scans, up to 500 pages a file, are part of Pro and the 7-Day Pass.
Will the Word file look exactly like my PDF?
PDF to Word keeps text, tables and layout as close to the original as it can, and plain letters and reports usually need little tidying. Pages with several columns, text laid over images or unusual fonts may need a few small fixes in Word, such as nudging a picture back into place or adjusting a line break.
Can I convert PDF to Word on a Mac or iPhone?
Yes. PDF to Word works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad, Android and Chromebook, so there is no app to install. Open the page, choose your PDF, and the finished DOCX downloads to your device like any other file.
Should I convert to Word or just edit the PDF?
If you only need to add a few words, an image or a link, Edit PDF does that for free right on your device, and the PDF keeps its exact look. Choose PDF to Word when you want to rewrite large parts of the document, reuse it as a template, or hand it to someone who works in Word.
