Getting a PDF under 2 MB

To compress a PDF to 2 MB, set 2 MB as your target in Wispdf and add the file. Wispdf tries settings in your browser until it fits and tells you the size it reached. It never makes a file bigger. 2 MB comfortably holds most text documents and can fit slides or a portfolio with images, though dozens of full-page photos will lose detail.

Tips that help

  • Exporting slides? Delete backup slides and repeated photos first. Fewer images means each stays sharper.
  • A 2 MB attachment is quicker to open on a slow connection or phone data than a heavy one.
  • Already under 2 MB? Wispdf never makes a file bigger, so running it through is safe.

Questions about compressing to 2 MB

What kinds of uploads have a 2 MB limit?
Limits around 2 MB tend to show up on assignment uploads, job applications that accept portfolio samples, support or claim forms that take attachments, and emails to people who prefer small files. It's a middle ground. There is room for images, but a photo-heavy file still needs some work to fit.
Can a slide deck or portfolio fit in 2 MB?
Often, yes. A deck that is mostly text and charts usually fits without trouble. A portfolio with many large photos has to share 2 MB across all of them, so each image loses some detail. Wispdf tells you the size it reached. If images look rough, cut the weaker pieces rather than squeezing every image harder.
What if my PDF is still over 2 MB?
Wispdf tells you the size it reached. From there, try strong compression in Compress PDF, part of Pro, which lowers image quality further. Grayscale PDF, which runs on our servers, often makes scans smaller. You can also split the file by size with Split PDF, or take out pages you don't need with Delete PDF Pages.
Should I use 2 MB or a bigger email preset?
If an upload form says 2 MB, use 2 MB. If you're only emailing, Compress PDF to a Size also has presets for 10, 20 and 25 MB, which are common attachment limits. A higher target keeps more image detail, so pick the largest size the person or form will accept.
