Getting a PDF under 1 MB
To compress a PDF to 1 MB, set 1 MB as your target in Wispdf and add the file. Wispdf tries settings in your browser until the PDF is 1 MB or less, then shows the size it reached. 1 MB is room for a long text report, a resume with a portfolio sample, or a handful of color scans at a modest resolution.
Tips that help
- Aim a little under, such as 950 KB, since some sites count a megabyte slightly differently.
- For a long scan, grayscale leaves more of the 1 MB for clear text than color does.
- Adding work samples? Pick your strongest few pages instead of shrinking every image hard.
Questions about compressing to 1 MB
Is 1 MB the same as 1000 KB or 1024 KB?
It depends on who is counting. Some sites treat 1 MB as 1000 KB and others as 1024 KB. To be safe, aim a little below the limit. In Compress PDF to a Size you can type a target such as 950 KB, and Wispdf tells you the size it reached, so you can compare it with the form's rule.
Will photos still look good at 1 MB?
For a few photos, usually yes. 1 MB leaves room for images that look fine on screen, and typed text stays sharp. A file with many full-page photos has to share that 1 MB across all of them, so each one loses more detail. Check the result, and if images look rough, include fewer of them.
What if my PDF won't go under 1 MB?
Wispdf tells you the size it reached, so you know the gap. If the form allows several files, Split PDF can split your document by file size. Otherwise, remove pages you don't need, convert color scans with Grayscale PDF, which runs on our servers, or try strong compression in Compress PDF, part of Pro, which lowers image quality further.
Can I compress a PDF to 1 MB on my phone?
Yes. Compress PDF to a Size works in any modern browser on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook, with no app to install. It runs on your device first, so the file stays in your browser. Very large PDFs are easier on a computer, since the work uses your device's memory.
