What Flatten PDF does

Flattening a PDF means turning its interactive parts, like form fields and annotations, into ordinary page content. Once a file is flattened, the answers you typed and the comments you added are simply part of the page. Nobody can click in and change them, and they print the same everywhere. Wispdf flattens the file inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

People use it to

  • Send back a filled-in permission slip so nobody can change the answers
  • Lock review comments into a contract markup before it goes to a client
  • Make a completed HR form print the same on any office printer

Questions about Flatten PDF

Is Flatten PDF free?
Yes. Flatten PDF is free and unlimited, with no account needed. It runs on your device, so there are no daily limits and no cap on how many files you flatten. The practical limit is your device's memory, comfortably around 1 GB of PDFs on a computer and less on a phone.
Is my form uploaded when I flatten it?
No. Flatten PDF works inside your browser, so your file never leaves your device. That matters for forms, which often hold names, addresses and signatures. There is nothing for us to store or delete, because we never receive the file in the first place.
How do I flatten a PDF form after filling it in?
Fill the form first, for example with Fill PDF Form, and save it. Then open Flatten PDF, add the saved file and press Flatten PDF. The typed answers become part of the page. Download the new copy and send that one. Keep your original too, in case you need to correct an answer later.
Can a flattened PDF be edited again?
Not as a form. After Flatten PDF, the fields and comments are ordinary page content, so nobody can click into them and change the answers. If you might need changes later, keep the unflattened original somewhere safe. If you also want to stop people opening or editing the file, add a password with Protect PDF.
Can I flatten a PDF on my phone or Mac?
Yes. Flatten PDF works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad, Android and Chromebook, with no app to install. Open the page, add the PDF from your files, flatten it and save the new copy back to your device. Everything happens in the browser on the device you're holding.
Why do my form answers go missing when I print or send a PDF?
Some apps don't show form fields or comments the same way, so typed answers can disappear in another viewer or on paper. Flatten PDF fixes this by turning them into regular page content. Run the file through Flatten PDF before you print or send it, and the answers stay visible for everyone.
